Tree Pruning Services
The experienced team at ECTW follows AS 4373 to the letter, ensuring your pruning project meets all Aussie standards. The right tree pruning service promotes health, maintains natural form, and keeps your property safe.
Proper tree pruning services don’t just keep your trees looking good; they can help you avoid tree removal in the future. Through regular maintenance, our team of qualified arborists can encourage healthy growth for young trees, improve airflow, and minimise likely damage. Plus, tree pruning can help reduce storm risk and liability on both residential and commercial sites, protecting your roofs, solar panels, and gutters. We’ve got decades of experience tree pruning on the Mid Coast of NSW, Sunshine Coast, and in Brisbane and Noosa, so we know how much timing and technique matter in the region.
Our team will assess your trees and create a personalised care plan to suit. For young trees, we can focus on formative pruning for a strong structure as they grow. For more mature trees, we’ll opt instead for crown thinning or reduction to help reduce strain. We’ll do a risk assessment of your site, identifying where deadwood removal or increasing clearance over paths and roofs may be needed. You’ll always want to keep tree limbs away from fences, solar panels, and other structures — and this is where pruning services can help. The benefits of pruning include:
- Safer properties and fewer storm call-outs
- Healthier, longer-lived trees with balanced canopies
- Better natural light and airflow; improved views
- Presentable grounds for tenants, guests and customers
- Clear access for vehicles and signage visibility for businesses

If the tree is mapped as protected vegetation or falls under an overlay, you may need council approval before removing or significantly interfering with it. Minor maintenance like standard pruning may be exempt, but our team will check your property against the planning overlays first or confirm with the council before starting work. We specialise in residential and commercial tree pruning in the Sunshine Coast, giving us plenty of experience dealing with the region’s overlays and permits.
-
Yes — Noosa regulates vegetation clearing on all freehold land. Many works, like removal or land clearing, require a permit unless an exemption applies under the Protected Vegetation Overlay. Our team of qualified arborists will check the Noosa Plan 2020 mapping and exemptions before pruning or removing trees. If you do require a permit, we have the expertise needed to handle the application.
-
Can I cut back branches overhanging from my neighbour’s tree? Usually yes. Queensland’s “right of abatement” lets you cut back to the boundary, provided you respect any vegetation protection orders. You can choose to return the cuttings or dispose of them yourself. For higher branches or ongoing issues, QCAT orders may apply.
-
For trees on council land, lodge a request with Sunshine Coast Council, Noosa Shire Council, or Brisbane City Council —don’t undertake work yourself.
-
Work near powerlines must follow the electricity distributor’s safety rules. Energex provides guidance and may need to isolate supply or undertake preliminary pruning to make the site safe. Our team of qualified arborists are experienced in this area, and are equipped to handle all the requirements and regulations needed to prune around powerlines.
-
Ask for pruning to be carried out in line with AS 4373 – Pruning of Amenity Trees, which sets out correct techniques such as crown thinning, reduction (not topping), deadwood removal, and formative pruning.
-
Ahead of storm season, selective pruning helps reduce risk from weak or overextended limbs. Queensland’s resilience guidance highlights trimming overhanging branches as practical storm preparation. Species and objectives still dictate exact timing, but storm season in Queensland typically runs between November and April each year.
-
Use the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme overlay maps (Schedule 2) or Noosa Plan 2020 interactive mapping to see if biodiversity/protected vegetation overlays apply to your lot before you engage works. Otherwise, our team of qualified arborists can assess your site for overlays or protected vegetation, as part of our quoting process.
-
Under Queensland guidance, you don’t have to return pruned branches, roots or fruit—but you may. Keep proof you trimmed only to the boundary and complied with any protections. When ECTW performs tree pruning works on your behalf, we also handle the green waste.
-
Local laws and guidance recognise that genuinely imminent hazards to life or property may justify prompt action, but evidence is crucial and protections can still apply. Our team will document the risk and contact council/utilities as relevant.
