Expert Stump Grinding in Sunshine Coast, Brisbane & Noosa

Once a tree’s been cut down, the leftover stump becomes an instant hassle. It gets in the way of mowing, attracts unwanted pests, and can even start sprouting new growth if you leave it sitting there.

At ECTW, we use high-powered grinding equipment to take stumps right down to the root system. The result is a clean, level patch of ground you can put to use. Grow new plants on the spot, build or develop over the area — whatever you need, we’ll obtain the depth clearance you need. Whether it’s a single stump or lots of different ones across your property, we handle it cleanly and efficiently. If you’re booking tree removal, make sure you consider stump removal too.

Our tree experts provide both commercial and residential stump grinding on the Sunshine Coast, Mid Coast NSW, Brisbane and Noosa regions. We can adjust the work to suit the size of your property and the type of stump you want us to grind. Our team of experienced arborists will pay attention to what your property really needs. From tree pruning to land clearing, we tailor the service to your project. The benefits of stump grinding include:

  • Eliminates trip hazards and levels surfaces
  • Stops unwanted regrowth before it starts
  • Helps prevent pest activity and stump rotting
  • Leaves the area ready for landscaping or planting
  • More efficient and cleaner than digging stumps out

FAQs

Stumped? We’re answering your questions.

  • Residential and commercial stump grinding in Sunshine Coast varies by price depending on the stump’s diameter, type of wood, and accessibility. Palm and most softwoods, for instance, grind more easily compared to hardwood species like Ironbark. Don’t worry, we’ll give you a competitive upfront quote with no hidden charges.

  • With grinding, we shave the stump down to about 200–300mm below ground using a specialist machine. This depth clearance allows for future development and building over the spot. Stump removal, as the name suggests, refers to the complete excavation of the stump and root system. This, in most cases, is far more disruptive and usually unnecessary.

  • Definitely, our arborists always set up protective screens to contain flying debris and check for underground utilities before we start the job.

  • Yes. We use tight-access grinders that fit through most standard gates, roughly 750mm wide.

  • Most won’t. However, more resilient and highly adaptable tree species, such as Camphor Laurel, may require a herbicide treatment before grinding to prevent resprouting. Many of the trees that resprout are also consiered invasive weeds, so ECTW can be more heavy-handed to ensure their removal.

  • They often do. Rotting wood is a delicacy for white ants, and leaving a stump in the ground for too long can bring them closer to your home. Grinding removes that risk.

  • If the tree was cut down legally, you generally won’t need separate approval to grind the stump.

  • The grinding process results in a nutrient-rich mix of wood shavings and soil, which becomes the new bare ground where the stump once was. The aerated soil and mulch mix will settle over time, giving you a great place to plant.
